Anna Napoli's film career began before Leo Catozzo invented the film splicer and ended with non-linear editing.

She started her career at Fonolux in Rome, where she witnessed the great editors of that time at work, editors such as Adriana Novelli, Jolanda Benvenuti and Dolores Tamburini.

After working for the newsreel “Obiettivo” she collaborated with Tatiana Casini Morigi, working at the Ponti-De Laurentiis studios.

Later, as an assistant editor, she worked on various prestigious films, meeting some of the great editors such as Nino Baragli, Ruggero Mastroianni, Maurizio Lucidi, Alberto Gallitti, Kim Arcalli and also great directors, such as Luigi Magni, Marco Ferreri, Ettore Scola, Dino Risi.

After training for about ten years she finally got the chance to put her name to films as an editor.

Among the directors she worked alongside were Bellocchio, Gianni Amelio, Del Monte, Natoli, and Dario Argento.

Her career also saw an epochal change in the movie industry: the arrival of non-linear editing.

Anna Napoli continued to make films, commercials, documentaries and even TV series using moviolas or software, and was the founder of the Italian Film Editors Association.

She continued her work alongside very different directors, including Luciano De Crescenzo, Renzo Arbore, Michele Soavi, Cinzia TH Torrini, Guido Chiesa, Asia Argento, Giancarlo Soldi, Marcello Cesena and many others.

In narrating her career Anna Napoli tells the story of film editing in Italy.

The thousands of frames that she observed, studied and edited in each work remained in her memory as “timeless visions”.

Quando Paola Mazzetti perse la madre era molto piccola. 

Lei e la sorella gemella Lorenza furono affidate a degli amici di famiglia, perché il padre era spesso in viaggio per lavoro.

Andarono a vivere a casa del pittore futurista Giannattasio.

Successivamente andarono a vivere dalla zia Nina Mazzetti che viveva in una grande casa nella campagna Toscana, villa del Focardo.

Le due gemelle trovarono un ambiente ideale, la zia Nina era sposata con Robert Einstein, cugino di Albert ed avevano due figlie.

Le bambine formarono un gruppo affiatato anche con i figli dei contadini della zona. 

Per loro quella vita era come il paradiso terrestre, ma un giorno tutto si finì.

Dei militari delle SS che si erano impossessati della villa del Focardo, dopo un interrogatorio sommario uccisero Nina Mazzetti e le figlie, perché ebree.

Robert Einstein in quel momento non era presente, perché dopo l’arrivo delle SS si era nascosto nei boschi della zona. La moglie non lo aveva seguito perché sicura che a lei non avrebbero fatto nulla.

Paola e Lorenza furono graziate perché non erano ebree, ma sentirono gli spari mentre la zia e le figlie venivano fucilate.

Per entrambe fu un trauma insanabile. 

Grazie all’arte e alla psicologia Paola Mazzetti è riuscita a superare il trauma e a ricominciare vivere. 

Anche la sorella Lorenza si fece strada sia nella pittura che nel cinema fondando a Londra il Free Cinema, insieme a Lindsay Anderson, Tony Richardson e Karel Reisz.

Paola Mazzetti nonostante quello che le accadde afferma che l’amore e il perdono sono le uniche vie d’uscita, l’odio e la vendetta non servono.

Paola Mazzetti lost her mother when she was very young. She and her twin sister Lorenza were placed in the care of family friends because their father often travelled for work.

They went to live in the house of the futurist painter Giannattasio.

They later went to live with their Aunt Nina Mazzetti in a large house in the Tuscan countryside, Villa del Focardo.

The twins here  found an ideal environment; Aunt Nina was married to Robert Einstein, Albert's cousin, and they had two daughters.

Together with their youngest daughter they formed a close-knit group, played in the villa and for them life was like a paradise on earth. But one day it all ended.

SS soldiers took possession of the villa and after a summary interrogation killed Nina Mazzetti and her daughters because they were Jewish.

Robert was not present at that time.

Paola and Lorenza were spared because they were not Jewish, but they heard the gunshots as their aunt and cousins were shot.

For both of them it was an incalculable trauma, unthinkable. 

Thanks to the love of people like Tullio Vinai and to art and psychology, Paola Mazzetti was able to overcome the trauma and start living again.

Sister Lorenza also found her way through both painting and film, founding the Free Cinema in London, along with Lindsay Anderson, Tony Richardson, and Karel Reisz.

Despite what happened to her, Paola Mazzetti has always affirmed that love and forgiveness are the only ways out, there is no need for hatred and revenge.
